There have been many transformations in recent years that have had an impact on society in different sectors – societal, financial and personal. Lifestyles have changed, some for the better and a few with negative consequences. The population in general has been reaping the benefits, and mostly those from the younger generation have been able to realise many of their dreams and develop their careers in a better fashion than was possible earlier. With their children relocated to different geographies, among the many health concerns which can trouble seniors, loneliness is one of the most common and least discussed. They are faced with numerous physical, psychological and social issues that challenge their sense of self and capacity to live happily. After retirement, they should live a life where they can pursue their hobbies, do things which they always wanted to but could not, make friends, laugh and share emotions with them. However, the senior citizens, referred to as elders, face certain problems as a consequence of the social transformation. This is reflected in the transition from the traditional ways of life to modern patterns, which require many compromises and adjustments. One of these involve old age homes (OAHs). So, Rural Industries Development Association (RIDA) running two Senior Citizens’ home at Tulihal Mayai Leikai, Imphal East District and Wangkhem, Thoubal District, Manipur with 25 beneficiaries in each home with the financial assistance from Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India to extend the services of homes provide with medical facilities like well-balanced meals provision, health care with yoga classes in these homes along with medical amenities, shelter and food.
